In every hospital and trust in the UK, there is a need to reduce cancellations on the day of surgery.

The problem is how to understand which patients are ready and healthy for surgery, in the weeks running up to their surgical date.

Traditionally the process includes organising Outlook diaries and calling all patients to confirm or cancel by phone.

Internally, there’s a lot of manual processing of lists and patients face cancellations on the day of the procedure, based on their surgeon/consultant's review of their case.

Designed to cut cancellations on the day of surgery

Nexalus solves this issue by allowing patients to check in three weeks before their procedure. It allows secretaries (list managers/officers) to view all their lists and manage them in one easy to use dashboard.

It then allows the clinician to review ‘clean’ checked-in cases prior to

the procedure day ensures more procedures occur and waiting lists are reduced.

The net effect of these actions is to allow cancelled or rejected list spaces to be reallocated to others on the waiting list – three weeks before surgery.

Using Nexalus software will create a 50% reduction in avoidable cancellations.

For the patient

There are two main benefits for the patient, ease of use and customer experience.

As a patient, using the Nexalus system, they can check-in or cancel their surgery online, be notified of changes and be reminded of their surgery appointment.

Contextual messaging can be applied to help patients with preparations for their procedure - delivering better patient care.

The chances of your surgery being cancelled on the day is also dramatically reduced as the patient is more likely to attend once checked-in.

The administration of the theatre and surgical procedures can present a significant logistical challenge - especially in a large hospital.

Using Nexalus tools, that are connected to the the hospital's legacy patient and theatre booking systems, enables admin teams and secretaries to manage the surgical lists more efficiently and in real-time - no more Outlook diary.

The Nexalus system manages patient check-ins and compiles lists for approval by each surgeon/speciality.

One of the largest causes of cancellations come from the decisions made by the consultant/surgeon declaring that the patient is unfit for surgery or not suitable for the prescribed surgery.

The Nexalus system removes these cancellation scenarios by presenting validated patient data to the surgeon ahead of the surgical date and allowing them to approve or reject the patient's procedure.

Patients who are checked-in and approved by their surgeon are guaranteed a better chance of receiving their treatment on time.
